Our Summer Bucket List

Family Session Q&A (2).jpg

We are officially half way through the summer! Can you believe it??

Logan is starting school in the fall. Yes. I am freaking out. Thanks for asking!

It really hit me how quickly our kiddos grow up. Am I really old enough to have a kid in school? Wait, what? This is real life? I have a kid? I’m a mom??? But that’s a rant and freakout for another time.

At the beginning of the summer, we had a family meeting and planned out our summer and we set several goals to help us have a great summer. Even though the summer is half over, you can still create a summer bucket list! There is plenty of time to have so much fun! So here are some of your ideas to do with your kids!

  • Go to a beach- We haven’t done this yet, but there are lots of fun man made beaches here in Utah! And even if we don’t make it to a Sandy beach, we always love to go play at a lake!

  • Make Homemade Ice cream- We are going to make it in a baggie. We tried already once this summer, and it did not work out! So we are going to try again! Here is a link to a blog post that we are going to use. Click here.

  • Watch fireworks- My kids love fireworks! And during a summer in Utah, there is no shortage of firework shows.

  • Watch a parade- I honestly hate big parades. So I like going to small town parades. There is more of a chance of getting candy!

  • Go swimming- Nothing like a cool pool to cool you off on a hot summer day!

  • Go camping- I loved going camping as a kid. So at the beginning of the summer, I blocked off one weekend a month to go camping! It has been so much fun and it has been great for our family to get away together.

  • Attend an outdoor musical- Musicals were such a big part of my life! I have been trying to introduce my kids to musicals so when I saw that the Scera was putting on 3 outdoor musicals this summer, I knew that this would be a great opportunity to teach them! We saw the Newsies! I am looking forward to doing this every summer.

  • Library trips- When we lived in Orem, we went to the library all the time! But when we moved to Eagle Mountain, we have struggled to get there. So we made it a goal to make it to the library often. It has been awesome. My kids have loved the trips, and I love having the variety of books during reading time.

  • Drive In Movie- Nothing says summertime like hanging out in the back of a truck and watching a movie outside! We are planning on seeing the Lion King!

  • Eat a Snow Cone- You probably see them everywhere! Stop somewhere and grab yourself a snow cone. Treat yourself! (Tip- get your young children the clear syrup. It won’t stain when they spill)

  • Splash Pad Play Dates- We go on a weekly play date to a splash pad. It is fun to hang out with other mom friends and cool off in the occasional dip in the water does the heart good.

  • Visit a New Museum- We have a pass to Thanksgiving Point, so one of our goals for the summer is to go to a new one!

  • Go to a Dollar Movie- Did you know that Megaplex and Cinemark put on summer dollar movies? You can go early in the morning and see an older kid movie for only a dollar a ticket! My kids are loving our weekly dates to the movies with our friends!

So there you have it! It is so good to write down goals! You can think about it all you want, but once you write it down, it becomes real. Do it!!
