I absolutely love in-home family sessions. Especially when there is a new baby involved. As some of you know, I used to be more of a styled newborn photographer. I would put naked babies in cute and adorable poses, wrap them up in swaddles and put them in baskets. I think the styled newborn photography, is absolutely adorable. It is definitely a work of art. And it's a lot of work. I recently have changed to a more lifestyle type of photography and I am loving it!
First off, I am loving how involved the family is. During the styled session, I would only take a couple of pictures of the family, and then focus on the baby for the remaining three hours of a session. Now, it is all about the family. Siblings and parents are now just as much a part of the session as that sweet baby. I love showing the different relationships within the family.
Secondly, I love that families get to hang out in the comfort of their own home. I realize the stress and anxiety that can come from trying to get at least one kid ready for family photos, leaving the house trying to remembering everything, and then discovering that the baby has blown out a diaper. So stressful, right? When we do an in-home session, I come to you! You can hang out in your sweatpants until I get there! How great is that?!
Lastly, we are creating and capturing moments in the most sacred place. Your home. There is just something beautiful about getting the family all snuggled on the couch, reading to your children their favorite book. Those interactions are the ones you want to remember. The real-life moments in the comfort of your own home. And that is beautiful.
Family pictures are some of my absolute favorites! When it comes to getting ready for pictures, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Which is why I am here to help! Let's talk about a couple of things to help you prepare for your family session.
This is why I am a lifestyle photographer and family videographer. I want to capture your family, in this moment, right now. Because this time is so fleeting. And having these memories is all that we will have left someday. Let’s capture your memories now. Don’t wait for those 10 pounds to come off. Don’t wait until you have fancy clothes. It honestly doesn’t matter. The time is now.
Paisley certainly loved her new little brother. She was all about kisses and loves. One of my favorite parts of this session was towards the end when Paisley and her dad showed me all of their dance moves! They even had their own routine! I hope that they will continue to dance with each other over the years!
We met up Provo Canyon so early in the morning! But in order to get the best light and have a happy baby, we decided that an early morning session would be best. And it was! It was the BEST!! We got there at 7 am and the grass was still dewy. It was just peaceful! I love this location in Provo Canyon because it looks amazing all year round. That tall grass and beautiful mountain view make the perfect setting for any kind of photo session.
I love photographing in this field. It’s in a really unexpected place in Highland, UT and it is perfect! The golden fields bring such a warmth to the pictures. It is one of my favorite places to go for the family mini sessions I photograph! It's great because it looks the same all year round, so it is great if you want a location that looks great during Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer!
Do you have a question about family sessions? Here is a blog post answering my most asked questions!
I love babies!!! I love photographing newborn lifestyle sessions. I love capturing sweet moments with brothers and sisters and with mom and dad! I love how comfortable people are in their own home. I love seeing a family in their surroundings. People, especially children, are at ease! They don’t have to worry about making a mess in someone else’s space, or not bringing the right snack for their kiddos, it is seriously a win-win!
Photographing a birth had been on my mind for a long while. It was kind of a bucket list item that I was aching to fulfill. So I asked one of my very pregnant friends if she would be willing to let me photograph the birth of her son! I was incredibly lucky because she said yes! I was so excited to start this adventure as a birth photographer.
If you look at this first picture, you will see four beautiful little girls. I photographed the sweet little girl on the left's newborn photos a few years ago when the twin girls were just a little under 2 years old! They are now almost four and have a brand new baby sister! I loved watching the girls aw and smile at the new baby.
I want to share one of my favorite family sessions from Mini Sessions this past fall! They are a great example of how to prepare for a family session!
